Alando “Man" Wilson son was born on July 29, 1967, and peacefully departed this life on February 2, 2026
He was the beloved son of Lottie D. Wilson and William B. Wilson whom he loved, honored, and cherished deeply throughout his life. He was a beloved sibling, father, uncle. cousin, friend, and coach. Alando received his early education in the Baltimore City Public School System, where he developed a foundation of love for learning and community. He later matriculated to Wilmington High School in Delaware, where he excelled both academically and athletically. During his time in Delaware, his Aunt Deenie and Uncle Doc played a pivotal role in shaping the man he became. A standout on the basketball court, Alando was recognized as a star athlete whose talent, discipline, and leadership left a lasting impression on teammates and coaches alike. Alando completed his education at Wilmington High School, graduating in 1986. Following his graduation, he received a scholarship to continue his academic and athletic journey at St. Thomas Aquinas College. He carried with him the same determination and character that defined his earlier success as a point guard.
Alando returned to his family in Baltimore, Maryland and later met and married Deitra Williamson, they spent twenty-three years together. He embarked on a professional career dedicated to public service. Alando worked faithfully for the Social Security Administration for over 20 years, demonstrating integrity, commitment, and compassion. Later, he transitioned into a role that reflected his heart for people by supporting the youth and families at Sheppard Pratt. He found great fulfillment working directly with youth offering guidance, compassion and encouragement. Alando had a deep love for families and children, but nothing brought him greater joy than his own children and grandchildren, who were truly his pride and joy. He was the proud father of five children, Shanae, Melvin, Alando, Taylor and Ahmaad.
His love for his firstborn daughter, Shanae, was immeasurable, and he often spoke with pride about her strength, resilience, determination. He never missed an opportunity to brag about the time she cooked for him and it turned out delicious. He devoted much of his free time to coaching and training his son, Ahmaad, instilling in him a passion and pline for basketball. He guided his son’s life with wisdom and dedication, ultimately helping him lead Bowie State to CIAA Championship and earned the MVP, which was one of the proudest moments of his life. He took immense pride in his children’s accomplishments and often spoke of them with joy and admiration. Alando proudly supported Melvin’s boxing, acting, and barbering pursuits, attending matches, even opening his home so he could set up his own barbershop. As a lifelong lover of sports, he was preparing to launch a sports podcast with his son and he took great pride in his son's success as the owner of his own publishing company. He always proudly spoke of having the smartest daughter in the world, celebrating Taylor’s recent graduation and start of her career as a nurse practitioner.
A man of strong and unwavering faith, Alando consistently pointed others to God, living as a ament to the fact that God’s light is always brighter than any dark day or season. His faith guided his life and strengthened him through every challenge. Alando’s sense of humor was contagious. Whether singing, or cracking jokes, he had a unique ability to spread joy and exude love to everyone who knew him. His presence was warm, uplifting, and unforgettable. God opened Heaven's arms and welcomed him home, reuniting him with his beloved mother, Lottie D. Wilson, father, William B. Wilson; God- father Norman Scott; daughter, Shanae Griffin (whom he so dearly missed); siblings, Charmaine (Cookie) McCrimmon - Forrest, Charmaine Benjamin, Willard Wilson and nephew Mukengi Wilson.
