Obituary

Albert Laurence Hicks, Jr., was born August 25, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland; he was the oldest son to the late Madge Alark and Albert Lawrence Hicks the First. God called him to eternal rest on June 30, 2015. Albert Lawrence Hicks, Jr. was always known as a motivated, hard working, goal oriented man who loved his family. He loved the Colts and spending time with his brothers looking at Colts Games, yelling for Big Daddy Lipson. He was an innovator. Instead of following others into a fraternity, he and his brothers formed they own, which Mr. Hicks was the first president of. He was a trendsetter in both fashion and thought with a unique sense of style and class. Mr. Hicks was considered a radical thinker by the society of his time and supported many liberal efforts such as The Civil Rights Movement and The Black Panthers. "Bus" Hicks was a straight up man. There were truly no gray areas when it came to knowing how Bus felt about a subject or you. He was always blunt and to the point; at times brutality honest. But that was what you respected most from the man; his candor- ness. Whether he loved you or couldn't stand you, he treated you the same way, usually cussing you out. He was so well loved by everyone in contact with him that sometimes you considered it an honor that he took the time and energy to tell you how he felt about you, good or bad. Regardless of the circumstances or occasion, he always made you laugh or at the least put a smile on your face. Bus Hicks was just fun to be around. As a health inspector for the City of Baltimore for over twenty years, he worked diligently to make the eateries in the City healthier for their patrons. There was a photograph in the Baltimore Sun showing Bus Hicks shutting down a Chinese Restaurant who was serving its customers cat meat. The picture had him posing in front of a room full of skinned cats. He looked like a fisherman with his, "Catch of the Day". Ironically, Bus Hicks loved serving as a waiter in some of the most prestigious restaurants in the Baltimore area. He treated his customers with outspoken honesty that he treated friends. For which he has usually overly compensated by them as a sign of their appreciation of his honesty. To know Bus Hicks was to love him. He was a remarkable person. Bus Hicks' death has been very hard on all of us who loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Hicks. Albert leaves to cherish his memory: son, Albert Lawrence Hicks the 3rd; brothers and sisters, Samuel Alark, Janice Alark, Robert Alark, and Madge Alark; stepdaughters, Valerie Walker and Traci Byrd; grandchildren, Albert Lawrence Hicks the 4th, Michael Hicks and Malaysia Hicks; a very special friend, Gerri Godsey; he also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
