Obituary

Albert Wesley Prater, Sr., our beloved Pop-Pop, was called home to be with the Lord after a brief illness on December 19,2016. Albert was a man of God who touched many lives with his wisdom and thoughtfulness. Willingly lending an ear and offering advice and guidance, he was there for you in good and bad times.

Albert, the oldest of seven children, was born to the late Theodore Wesley Prater Sr. and the late Verna Mae Galberth Prater. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.

After graduation Albert served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was honorably discharged in 1967. Albert was employed by several businesses prior to his being hired by Johns Hopkins Hospital as a biomedical equipment technician. During his tenure at Hopkins, he proudly accepted the Baker-King Award which is presented to employees who have been truly outstanding in the performance of their duties and have set an example for everyone at the hospital. After working at Hopkins for over 30 years, he retired in 2011 to care for his loving wife Naon.

Albert's varied interests included photography, electronics, AKC registered dogs and cars.

Anyone who knew Albert admired his love of family and loyalty to friendships.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years Naon, his twin Alvin Sr. (Dianne) and his younger brother Jonathan (Claudette).

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children Ava (Janet), Cindy (Danielle), Albert Jr., Adriane and Cathy; grandchildren Alexander, Clinton, Jonathan, Ronnie and Kevin; siblings LaNae (Fransco Sr.), Theodore (Mary), Anthony (Gwendolyn) and Aaron Sr.; devoted friend Lillie Cottingham and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
