IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Albertha Carolyn
Anderson
March 28, 1943 – October 18, 2022
Albertha Anderson (March 28, 1943-October 18, 2022)
Albertha McDonald Anderson was born March 28, 1943, the eleventh of 12 children, to Louise and Clifford McDonald. Affectionately called Bertha, Bert and Lil mama, she grew up in Old Town Fernandina Beach, Florida. She graduated from Peck High School and soon after moved to Boston, Massachusetts to be with her older sister and brother in law, Lois & Vincent Valentine. She met and married Henry Richard Anderson (preceding her in death, 1935-2020) and gave birth to Andrea Smith, Kristine Berry and Henry Anderson III (married to Claudene Anderson). Her children, grandchildren (Gabrielle Berry, Jordyn Berry, Faith Smith) and bonus grandchildren (Aja Berry, Elizabeth Smith and Justin Clue) were her world. In addition to her children, grandchildren and bonus grandchildren, she is survived by her younger sister Jeannette Mobley, her sister-niece Mercedes Barrett, best friends Paula Anderson and Hattie Broome, Godchildren Akeem Mosely, Joy Anderson, Tonya Mobley and Veronica Valentine, the Anderson family and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
She worked briefly at BF Goodrich but her niche was caring for children. She opened an in-home daycare and cared for children and her former day care children's children for over 20 years. Bertha was one of the most giving people you ever met. She sent care packages to hurricane victims, gave freely to everybody and never met a stranger she didn't like. She sometimes thought she was a comedian, making jokes that she laughed the hardest at, even until the end. One of her favorite hobbies was the casino, often taking a bus on her own to go. When she couldn't get to the casino, scratch offs would do!
Holidays, especially Christmas, were her favorite times of the year. She always made sure everyone received a gift and never wanted anyone to feel left out. For Christmas, she shopped all year long to ensure she was able to buy for everyone, even if everyone ended up with matching pajamas! We will all miss our matching pajamas, but Bert, we will miss you more. You will always be a part of our hearts.
