IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice
Epps
April 26, 1939 – October 16, 2018
ALICE MARIE EPPS
,
daughter of the late William and Martha Highsmith, was
born on April26, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on October 16,
2018 after a valiant battle with a lengthy illness. Her firm belief in God supported her
in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Alice was named after her aunt, and her middle name has been passed down to her
niece and great niece. She attended Baltimore City Public Schools.
Later, she met, dated, and eventually married Junius Epps in 1957. Out of this union
one son was born; Richard Allen Epps. Alice and her son eventually moved back to
the family home in South Baltimore. There the home bristled with love and was filled
with weekend card parties with her parents, siblings, aunts, cousins, and extended
family.
Alice obtained a position in the Dietary Department of what was known as South
Baltimore General Hospital more recently known as MedStar Harbor Hospital. She
worked there for over twenty years before she had to stop working in June 1990 due
to a sudden stroke. Alice and her family enjoyed a very close and loving relationship.
At one point they all worked at the South Baltimore General Hospital. A~ other times
one or more of them lived together and supported each other. Although they worked
together, they didn't get a chance to do much talking so they would spend hours on
the phone catching up with each other.
Alice had a passion for reading. At an early age she would spend hours reading
comic books and True Romance magazines. Later, she and her sisters would
circulate books among themselves and spend hours discussing them.
Alice was a nurturer at heart and always made time for her son and grandson
who she loved with all her heart .. She was quiet and soft-spoken but always
enjoyed the company of others. She will be dearly missed but we celebrate the
fact that she is at peace with her creator.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Rose Hamm, Hattie Boyer,
Doris Fullard, and brothers Richard Highsmith and Steven Highsmith. She is survived
by her son Richard Epps, Sr. (Claudine), her devoted grandson Richard Epps,
Jr. (Li'l Rick); a great-grandson; Dontae Epps; nephews Leonard Hamm (Rose),
Thomas Hamm, Daniel Hamm, Curtis Hamm, Edwin Fullard (Lolita), and
Jake Fullard (Michelle); nieces Cynthia Slade (Louis) and Teresa Harnm; and a host
of other relatives and friends. Alice will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion in Lansdowne,
Md.
