Alice Louise Birckhead Jones 54, departed this life peacefully and unexpectedly, Wednesday, June 21, 2017 while receiving care at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Intensive Care Unit in Baltimore, Maryland after a heart attack. Family members were at her bedside, mother Julia Bailey Birckhead and sister, Judy.

Alice received her formal education in the public schools of Wicomico County and graduated from James M. Bennett Senior High School in June 1981. During her high school years, Alice was very active in the JMB High School Band playing the saxophone and alto saxophone. In sports, Alice received trophies for the shot put and javelin.

In the fall of 1981, Alice began enrollment at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Alice attended Howard University for two years and later received a nursing license from Wor-Wic Tech in Salisbury, MD.

Alice received her spiritual Christian training and was a member at Friendship United Methodist Church, in Wetipquin, Maryland .She sang with the Junior Choir and participated in many church activities.

Alice was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Durmon William Jones on December 8, 1993. To this union two daughters and three sons were added.

Her family will remember and cherish Alice's preparation of great holiday meals, her beautiful singing voice, her many phone calls to discuss the latest political fiascos, and to check the welfare of others and the sharing of her favorite gospel songs.

Alice leaves to cherish precious memories her husband of twenty-three years, Durmon William Jones Sr.: two daughters, Alyson and Carrie; and three sons, Durmon III, Noah, and John; her mother, Julia B. Birckhead; sisters Nerine. and Judith; six grandchildren; nephew Dwayne and his family; uncle Harry L.ee Church; mother in law Florine Jones; sister-in-law Delores; and numerous family members, cousins, and friends.

Her father Noah J. Birckhead and brother John B. Williams preceded her in death.
