IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice Cecelia
Pitts
July 3, 1945 – May 15, 2025
Alice Cecelia Pitts, daughter of the late William and May Hawkins was born on July 3, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on May 16, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
Alice was one of 15 children. She was raised in Baltimore, and she received her education at Saint Claver Catholic School and Frederick Douglass High School. After high school she gained employment at various hospitals and nursing homes as a dietitian supervisor.
Alice met the love of her life, James Pitts, in 1964 and they married in holy matrimony in 1966. Out of this union God blessed her with two beautiful children, Christine Pitts and James Pitts Jr. Alice was loved by her husband, and they were inseparable. When you saw Alice, you saw Pitts (as she called him).
Alice was affectionately known as "Granny", by her grandchildren. She spent time every weekend with her great-grandson, Gavin, who she loved very much. Alice had a big heart and had a tremendous love for her family. She had an open-door policy where she loved to feed you, give you a take home gift and she often offered advice. Alice was always a great voice of reason. She loved talking to family on the phone and ensuring that every holiday or birthday family members received a greeting card. Many of the family members would call her to learn about the family's history as she was known as our family historian with much knowledge. She would also throw a joke or two during the conversations and end the call with "I love you"! At any given time, you could catch Alice and Pitts at the casino, playing cards, or scratching their scratch offs. She loved to cook, especially fried crabs and listening to her oldies but goodies music. She also had a green thumb as she had a love of plants. Alice's affectionate smile, sense of humor, loving personality and devotion to her family will be sorely missed.
Preceding her in death are her siblings: Irene, Mabel, Helen, Lillian, Elaine, Paulette, William, Edward, Rudolph, Raymond, Jerry and Delores.
Alice leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband James Pitts, Sr.; two children, Christine Pitts and James Pitts Jr.; two grandchildren, Kristen Queen and Kingston Pitts; one great-grandson, Gavin Brannon; one sister Doris Hawkins; three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, other family, friends and two special nieces:
Helen Jones and Jacqueline Johnson-Bey.
