Obituary

ALLEN DWIGHT BROWN, SR. departed this life on July 17, 2015 after a long illness. The youngest of seven children, Allen was born on June 28, 1939, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Roland A Brown, Sr. and Grace A Johnson Brown. After graduating from Southern High School in 1957, Allen enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served his country honorably. He was a proud Marine and often spoke of his life changing experiences during basic training at Paris Island in South Carolina. Allen attended Maryland State College, now known as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree. He enjoyed an active college life and became a member of the the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, in 1960. His friends and line brothers affectionately called him, "B-Mo" and remember him as one of the few students that owned a car. After graduation, Allen became an Industrial Arts teacher in the Baltimore County Public School System. He later earned a Master of Arts Degree from Bowie State College, now Bowie State Universiy, and was promoted to a Pupil Personal Worker for the Baltimore County Board of Education where he retired. A faithful servant of God, Allen became a member of the Ebenezer AM.E. Church as a child,and in his adult years joined Epworth United Methodist Church. He was a kind, gentle, and spiritual person known for his great "listening ear." Family and friends often sought his advice and counsel with their daily life challenges. Preceding him in death are: his sister, Gloria Comegys; his daughter-in-law, Angela Brown; brothers-in-law, Robert Garrett and Clarence Copeland and sister-in-law, Shirley Griffin. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Hedy Lamarr Griffin Brown; two daughters, Alison Brown Backus and Ashlie Brown; two sons, Allen D.Brown, Jr. and Roland P. Brown, Sr. (Tamara); granddaughters, Alexis, Alyssa, Alexandra, Adrienne, April, Jordan, and Ryanne; grandsons, Aaron (Jillian), Allen III, Armani and Roland P. Jr.; great- granddaughter, Alessia; great-grandson, Aaron Jr.; sisters, Ruth Garrett and Grace Copeland; brothers, Isaiah Brown, Roland A Brown, Jr. and George Brown; one brother-in-law, Wilford Griffin; three sisters-in-law, Eulastine Brown, Frances Griffin, and Vesta Griffin; one godson, Livingston Thaddeus Cowling, Jr.; several cousins, nieces, nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
