Obituary

Alphonso Melton, beloved son of the late Henrietta and Burnace Melton, was born on September 12, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life suddenly on July 5, 2025, due to a heart-related event. Though he courageously battled cancer and its complications for many years, his spirit remained unshaken. In his heart, he was not ready to go but God had other plans.
Alphonso was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and honed his skills at the historic Samuel Gompers Taylor Vocational School, where he studied the electrical trade. Gifted with a natural ability to repair and build, he was a "Jack of All Trades." Whether it was electrical work or fixing anything around the house, Alphonso could be counted on. Throughout his career, he worked for several companies, ultimately concluding his professional journey with Farboil Paint Company.

Although Alphonso never married, he shared his life with his devoted longtime companion, Althia Stephenson. Through this relationship, he welcomed two bonus sons into his life-whom he lovingly raised as his own. Together, they had a beautiful daughter, Rhonda, whom he cherished deeply. Alphonso had a kind and humorous spirit that drew people to him he made friends wherever he went and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

A loving father, son, brother, and uncle, Alphonso was always present when his family needed him. Whether he was teaching his daughter how to ride a bike, making late-night snack runs (even when mom said no), or lending a helping hand, his presence was constant and comforting. He approached life with quiet strength, deep loyalty, and a resilient heart. He found joy in the simple things a hearty meal, a good laugh, and especially cheering on his beloved Baltimore Ravens, Alphonso's memory will be forever treasured by his longtime companion and the mother of his children, Althia Stephenson; loving step-sons Shawn Dixon and preceded in death by Torrey Dixon; his devoted daughter Rhonda Harvey and son-in-law Junist Harvey Jr.; and his adored granddaughters, Azzaria and Aniyah Harvey.

He also leaves behind three loving sisters: Nora Ann Johnson (Horace), Henrietta Smith (Frank), and Pauline Melton; four devoted brothers: Burnace Melton Jr. (Bridgette), Leezor Melton, preceded in death by George Braxton, and Allen Melton; along with eighteen nieces and nephews: Angela Thompson, Allen Melton Jr., Dwayne Melton, Carlynn Willis, Amanda Stephenson, Burnace Melton III, Katria Melton, David Braxton, Janice Singleton, Thomas Braxton, Frenchie Braxton, Lorraine Jackson, Elaine Stewart, Theresa Graham, Samuel Pinkney Jr., Emanuel D. Pinkney, Dwight E. Pinkney, and Regina Gellespie; and a host of other loving relatives and cherished friends.

Alphonso's warmth, work ethic, and unwavering love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit, laughter, and love will remain a guiding light in our lives.
