On Friday, February 9, 2018 at 5:25 a.m., God summons angels to Andrew's bedside and ushered him into His presence. Andrew Manning Conwell, affectionately known as "Buddy," was born on March 8, 1948 in Rich Square, North Carolina to the late Elwood Rothschild Conwell and the late Altessie Wall. Buddy was the third of four children born of their union. Buddy received his formal education in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania public schools. Buddy gave his life to Jesus Christ at an early age, while attending Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Buddy joined the United States Army where he served from 1967 to 1973, having served in Korea during the Vietnam War. For his service, Buddy was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Army Overseas Service Bars; and the National Defense Service Medal. Upon returning home, Buddy worked for the London Fog Factory in Baltimore, Maryland and later attended school for Oil Burner Training as well as Heating and Air Conditioning Certification. He worked with his father and brother, in their family business, Conwell and Sons Heating and Air Conditioning Services. Buddy maintained the business and was a well-known service man with clients he serviced for decades.
Buddy met and became friends with Carol Gibson in 1974. They dated and had two daughters, Erica Azuridee and Adriane Michele.On June 10, 1989, he married the love his life, Marilyn Conwell, whose devotion to him was obvious to all, as she stood by his side in sickness and in health.
Buddy had a way making you feel like family. His love for people, delicious food and good conversation always made for a good time! Buddy's smile was infectious, his laugh hearty and his ability to bring joy into the room was unparalleled.
Buddy leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Marilyn Conwell; three daughters, Nikki Peña, Erica St. Bernard (Russell), Adriane Brooks (Marqus); brother, Elwood Levi Conwell (Hattie); sister, Pamela Alease Clark; sister-in-law, Lori Sweet; three grandchildren, RJ Vazquez, Ian Brooks, and Karis St. Bernard; Buddy was aware that Adriane and Erica are expecting; nephew, Darryl Ferguson; niece, Tess-Ella Brooks (Kelly); great nephew, Jordan Jones;great niece, Madison Brooks; and great nephew, Joshua Brooks; along with a host of cousins, many loving relatives, concerned friends and neighbors.
