Obituary

Andrew Lucas was born on January 2, 1934, in Raleigh North Carolina, Wake County, in a Black owned community

and called "Ramcat", to Melvin Lucas and Martha "Cricket" Wiggins- Lucas. Andrew was the second of 7 children,

Melvin Jr., Marvin, JC, JB, Douglas Sr., Wadell, Odell, Dorothy, Louise, Patricia and Mary Ann. Born of humble

beginnings with limited academic education opportunity because of work responsibilities but gained an enormous

exposure to life's education. He had to help his family, especially after the premature loss of his mother at his age 20.

Later in life he overcame the heartache of putting his education on hold by taking night classes. He was determined to

make his mother proud and help care for his siblings. As a Young man Steadfast on a journey rooted in Raleigh, NC, his

ambition landed him in Baltimore, MD. Here is where he was destined to master All building trades and built the very

foundation of the "Lucas and Wiggins Family Legacy"

Andrew was a fierce protector of family and had a strong work ethic. He was an outstanding outdoorsman at an early age

who enjoyed nature and his Pinto pony. His mother taught him how to hunt, trap animals, grow food and tobacco.

Dorsey Adams admired his skills and offered him a job to help him hunt and train his beagles. It wasn't long before his

skill was bringing in good money for his mom and siblings. His relationship with Mr. Adams and his Native American,

Cherokee heritage protected and afforded him opportunities rarely seen for others in that time. He left North Carolina

after his Uncle Arnell got him a job in Baltimore. He worked as a laborer and foreman for Whiting-Turner and John

Rohrer Contracting Companies, before starting his own independent contracting business, Lucas and Lucas Company.

Before long, his success allowed him to reach back for his brothers and sisters.

He was a world class athlete with the skill of a fox, endurance of a horse and strength of an ox. Video showed him doing

push-ups while jumping up and touching his toes at the same time. As a successful amateur boxer headed for Olympic

tryouts in Boston, he decided to hang up his gloves after seeing the fighting game was not an honest world. Later in life

he taught his sons boxing and loved watching old westerns and Floyd Mayweather boxing matches.

Family was the world to Andrew. He married Shirley Ann Griffin Lucas on June 1 st, 1953 and had nine children. He

also had one daughter with Annie Robinson. Later he remarried and wed, Brenda Louise Robinson-Lucas on May 24th,

1969, and had five girls. He was baptized at Harpers Ferry by Bishop Edward Ambush. This was a pivotal moment for

him, giving him a new perspective and deeper appreciation for life. He impressed upon others the importance of Love

and Family; always encouraging education and pursuing your dreams. He enjoyed working with his nephew Doug, Jr.

to restore and register his mothers and grandmother's final resting place at the Pace Wiggins Cemetery. He loved Family

Reunions and spending time with cousins including Zell, Signor and Calvin. He shared his Brother JC's passion for

Native American Culture at Pow Wows and reservations. He shared Marvin's pastime of racing at Capital Raceway,

where he and his wife won trophies. Andrew loved his fishing trips with our big dog Ike and his mountain girls and

shooting pool with Odell. His eye was always on the eight ball. Hiking and camping with his children, grandchildren

and all kids that wanted to tag along was his life and gave him purpose. His family was his heart and the woods and

the adventures in them were not just a forest but truly a place of peace.

As a world traveler his most beloved places were Hawaii, Harpers Ferry, Shenandoah, and The Appalachian Trail of

Tears along with his fishing expeditions to Bimini, Costa Rica, Everglades and Alaska with Doug Jr. and Sr. He was

inseparable from his right-hand man, the chief, "Little Lucas" (His Grandson and hiking buddy). When he wasn't golfing

with the Riches, you would find him at JW's garden. Andrew had a plethora of talents, taking learning seriously and

passionate about his craft. He mastered everything from carpentry to building his own cabin. He was gifted in archery,

bowling, tracking, golf, photography, pool, horseshoes, drag racing, gardening, cooking, hunting, and training dogs etc.

When something needed to be done, he would fix it himself or learn how. He never gave up easily and it was a mistake to

underestimate him. Deeply rooted in family. He IS and Always will be a "Loving Lucas-Wiggins Legacy".

Andrew is survived by his ten daughters, Toyanna Lucas-Matthews (Tony), Adrian Lavern Lucas, Karen Lucas. Tonya
