A Time to be Born...On a crisp Fall of September 18,1930 Annie Mae, the twelfth of thirteen siblings was born to the late Josephine and James Martin in Sumter, South Carolina. A Time to Grow...Annie grew up on a farm, however, she was not a fan of farm life. So she moved to the city to live with her late Aunt Christine Givens. Later at age 13 Annie relocated to Baltimore with her family. A Time for Family...In 1945, Annie gave birth to her only child Geraldine who preceded her in death, whom she loved dearly. Geraldine gave birth to Tandrea, Annie's only grandchild who was the joy of her life. Later in life she met and married Fred B. Durham who also preceded her in death. A Time to Build, Get, Laugh and Dance... Annie was what we call today a high maintenance lady. She enjoyed many fine things in life, not only for herself, but many of her family and friends were recipients of her gracious giving heart. Sukie Annie, Granny enjoyed traveling, always had the latest automobile and everything she did was done with excellence. She always said: "If you gonna do business, do it right, you can't be cheap." A Time to Work...In 1959 Annie was employed with the Baltimore County Public School System until her retirement in 1987. A Time to Gather and Embrace....Annie was a giver. She opened her home to children and adults in need. She used her car to take family and friends to church, Annie had an immense passion for the welfare of children, she was a believer of Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it." She provided for the well-being ofMickie, Julie, Inetta, Thomas and at age 65 being lead by the Lord, Annie was blessed with guardianship of four great-grand nephews who were in foster care; Kevin, Derrick, DeAndre and Tymaine. Then later acquired permanent placement for them with other family members. Annie was instrumental with starting the Family Reunions, sponsoring the first one and recently encouraging the younger family members to continue to celebrate family togetherness. A Time to Praise God...Annie was a life-long member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, joining under the leadership of Reverend Charles E. Johnson. She enjoyed praising the God of her salvation, always acknowledging her relationship with God through her favorite song; 'Christ Is AW. She would testify of His goodness to her throughout her life and encouraged those she encountered with one of her sayings, "Don't let your Saturday Night activity, interfere with your Sunday Morning duties." She was an active member of many ministries; such as: The Wo-He-Lo Circle, the Aim High Club, the Senior Choir, Methodist Chorus and the United Methodist Women. Affectionately called 'Diva', 'Sukie', 'Annie', 'Granny' and 'Gramps', we celebrate your life and unselfish acts of compassion. You will be greatly remembered and lovingly missed by the many lives you have touched. A Time to Rest...During Annie's illness she remainedjovial and kept everyone laughing with her sense of humor. Early in the morning of June 29, 2013, Annie transitioned to a new life with her Lord. So as God closes this chapter of Annie's life, we say "AMEN".
