Annie Lee Simmons nee' Durham, loving known as Ma, was born on February 14, 1917 in Rocky Point, North Carolina. On December 26, 2010, Ma departed this life of natural causes while in the comfort and care of her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and John McKnight. Ma became a resident of Baltimore, Maryland at the age of twelve. She soon was baptized and received Christ into her life. While serving at the church. Ma met her husband, Henry Simmons. This union blessed her with nine adoring children. Henry preceded Ma in death, as did four of her children. As a single parent, raising her children became Ma's legacy. Ma was a long time resident of 1924 West Baltimore Street where she extended her hand and generous spirit to many. During her later years in life, Ma formed a strong bond with son-in-law, Samuel Butler. Ma also formed a special bond with her grandson, Kenneth Simmnons, who employed his nursing expertise during her time of need. Ma leaves to cherish her memory; her children, David, Rebecca, Irma and Tyrone; grandchildren, Regina, Angela, Dawn Tamarra, Kenneth, Darrin, Shawn, Tyrone, Jr., Bryant, Vernell Jr., and Daniel Jr., two daughters-in-law, Gloria and Joyce; two sons-in-law, Samuel and John; twelve great-grandchildren; a host of nices, nephews and other relatives and friends.
