Obituary

Arbie Dean Webb Jr., affectionately known as "Sugarboy" or "Sug," was born on April 5, 1953, to the late Rev. Dr. Arbie Dean Webb Sr. and Inez Webb. He was a special blessing, arriving on Easter Sunday that year, and his father often spoke of him as his Easter sermon brought to life. Arbie was an exceptional scholar from an early age, attending Baltimore City Public Schools, including Abraham Lincoln Elementary, Gwynn Falls Junior High, and Baltimore City College High School, where his brilliance in mathematics was recognized. So profound was his talent that he was invited to teach math classes, and there was even discussion of making him a professor. However, Arbie's intellectual curiosity led him to pursue a degree in electronics at the University of Maryland. His academic excellence earned him a position at Bendix Corporation, a company specializing in spacecraft materials for outer space travel. There, he flourished, becoming a wellspring of knowledge in his field and beyond. A true intellectual, Arbie was known for his insatiable thirst for knowledge. He possessed a mind so sharp that there was rarely a question he couldn't answer. And on the rare occasion that he didn't have an answer, he would immediately research it, ensuring a swift and well-informed response. Whether discussing world news, politics, geography, culture, or wildlife, Arbie was always prepared to enlighten and engage those around him.

Beyond his intellect, Arbie had a deep appreciation for music. He was an ardent fan of musical greats such as John Denver, Roy Orbison, and his ultimate favorite, The Beatles. He also enjoyed classic science fiction, spending many hours engrossed in "Star Trek" and "Battlestar Galactica." His curiosity and humor extended into the digital age, where he delighted in Facebook interactions, especially his proudest moment—receiving a response from Queen Elizabeth's official page. Arbie had a weekly routine that led him to form genuine connections with those he encountered. Whether at Grace Medical Pharmacy, Shoppers Supermarket, or any place he frequented, people grew fond of him and would often say, "He was such a nice guy." His presence was a light to those around him, always bringing warmth, wisdom, and laughter. Arbie leaves to cherish his memory five devoted sisters: Karen Yvonne Lucas (Herbert), Permelia Jean Lawson (Nelson), Marlene Deanna Webb (McBride), Janice Kathy Webb (Cary), and Jocelyn Leonora Goodman (Clifford); one loving brother, Anthony Vincent Webb (Laverna); 24 nieces and nephews, as well as a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever hold him dear in their hearts. Arbie lived a life marked by curiosity, wisdom, and kindness. His journey on this earth has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His family takes solace in knowing that he is now at rest, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. "We love you. May you rest in peace and comfort."
