Obituary

Arlene Elizabeth Wise , beloved daughter of the late Ross and Sarah Wise, was born on January 25, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. She peacefully departed this life to be with her savior on July 20, 2017, after a lengthy illness.

She received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. After graduating from Edmondson High School, she was employed for a number of years by Bell Telephone Co. while attending Coppin State College. After giving birth to her son she was employed with Dukeland Nursing Home. She later had a career job with the State of Maryland Department of Juvenile Justice System, where she retired as shift supervisor after 29 years of service.

In the early seventies, through a short relationship she gave birth to her only son, Troy Wise. She later met her life partner, Vontilear Kelson whom together raised a host of children and a number of dogs over the years. They remained loyal partners and friends until Von's death in December of 2013.

Arlene was a devoted partner, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Affectionately known as "Granny" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. As the last surviving sibling of four, family was very important to her. Though she loved all her grandchildren equally, she devoted her life to grooming and preparing her first born granddaughter, (Nicole), to become the well-rounded person that she is today. Arlene had a reputation for telling you what you needed to hear not what you wanted to hear. She would often tell family and friends, "if you don't want the truth, don't ask me". Arlene loved cooking and entertaining family and friends especially during football season, she was a huge Ravens fan. Her contagious smile and laughter would fill a room. Those of us that were blessed to be a part of Arlene's life are left with lessons in life, drive and determination, empathy and compassion for others, and a greater since of self and oneness with the world.

She professed her faith in God, serving him at United Methodist and Douglas Memorial Churches. Her faith in God was evident by the way she lived her life and how she touched the lives of family, friends, and strangers. While her life's light has been dimmed, it will continue to shine brightly through those she has touched. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Preceding her in death: sisters, Jerlene and Shirley; brother, Mervin.

She leaves to rejoice in her memory: devoted son, Troy Wise; three grand- children, Nicole Veronica Wise Douglas, Xavier Juan Reginald, and Quan- isha Michelle Wise; three great grandchildren, Ki'yion, Kamari, and Kaleah and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and close friends.
