ARNOLD TERRY MONTGOMERY, son of the Late Herbert Montgomery and Norma Sharps Montgomery, entered this world a healthy, bright, beautiful baby on Tuesday, November 7, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. Terry, as he was affectionately known to just about everybody, grew up in a God-fearing and loving household, surrounded by the companionship of his brothers, Herbert, Jr., Rodney, and Reginald and his sisters, Denise and Deborah.

Faith was central in the Montgomery household. Terry worshipped with his very large extended family, and as a child was welcomed into faith at Ames Memorial United Methodist Church. He was active in the life of the church, and he loved being part of it, especially the Drum and Bugle Corp. Years later, Terry recognized he needed to offer himself again to God, and on August 13, 2015, Terry asked God to wash him yet again and as scripture says, "restore the joy of his salvation." This moment of spiritual refreshing led Terry on an amazing journey, and even amidst his own life struggles and moments of suffering, Terry availed himself to be used by God to speak life into others, many of whom were terminally ill, and offer them hope in the face of troubling times.

From a young age, Terry was very ambitious. That ambition led him to graduate from Frederick Douglass Senior High School in 1968. Upon graduation, Terry began matriculating at the former Coppin State College, following in the footsteps of his cousin, Louise, a now retired and decorated educator. Terry was a basketball fanatic! Growing up, he could be found on the neighborhood basketball courts honing his skills and bonding with his neighborhood friends, especially his best friend, the Late Lebard Jones, Sr. These friendships have lasted over Terry's entire life. Also smooth on his feet, Terry had swag on the roller skate rink that caused others to marvel. He loved going to the Coliseum and skating as if life could get no better.

During Terry's time at Coppin, he was drafted into the Armed Services, faithfully serving in the United States Air Force. During his four- year tenure, including tours in Cambodia and Vietnam, Terry was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Upon his honorable discharge, Terry began working with his big brother building awnings for homes. Not only was he proud of his work, but he was proud to work so closely with his big brother.

Growing up in a home that always expressed and received love, Terry was a lover of love! His life was no short of it, either. As his journey unfolded, life brought several wonderful people onto his path with whom he was blessed to share seasons of love and life. He met and married Roslyn Thomas, and upon the end of this journey of love, Terry moved to California, where he met, fell in and grew in love with Denise Tyler. Life's journey led Denise and Terry to chart new paths, and he later met and married Marvetta Lee. This journey of love lasted until God called Marvetta to her heavenly mansion.

This life change birthed a new love in Terry's heart, a love to return home to be with his family. Rivaling only the celebration the Prodigal Son's father gave him, Terry's family rejoiced that he was back home to live, love, and laugh. Most excited about this return was the apple of Terry's eye, his only daughter and the realization of his legacy, Gwendolyn. Gwendolyn gave Terry reason to live. She was his everything. When he made the decision to move to California, he gave his baby girl the opportunity to stay behind and follow her heart's passions, attending all her dream schools, obtaining multiple college degrees, establishing a family, and impacting lives across his native city. If Gwen was happy, Terry was happy! His happiness grew when he became "Poppy." He knew he had big shoes to fill because his father was a one-of-a-kind grandfather, and he desired to live up to his father's legacy.

Tucked away in the comforts of his home, surrounded by the angels, Terry heard God's voice in a new way. This time, the voice was calling him to come Home, and kissing the realities of this life goodbye, Terry took flight with the angels and went Home to be with God. To welcome him were his parents and siblings, Herbert, Jr., Reginald, and Deborah.

Resting in the confidence of God's eternal comfort and to live out their days surrounded by that cloud of witnesses that now includes Terry, his one and only daughter Gwendolyn T. Montgomery Johnson; son-in- law, Shae Johnson; granddaughter, Samaya Johnson; grandson, Gavin Johnson; sister Minister Denise Montgomery Carter; brother, Rodney Montgomery; sisters-in-law, Doreatha Montgomery and Linda Montgomery; special cousins, Louise Sharps McCleary, Brenda Jones and Herman Pete Sharps; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends embrace every new tomorrow confident that God is with them and Terry is watching them! To God be the glory for the great things God has done!
