Obituary

On Saturday, August 24,2013 the Lord called Arthur "Sunny" Brockington Jr. to his Heavenly home where he is now free from all pain, illness, and grief. Sunny was born on December 26,1930 to the late Arthur and Laura (Big Mama) Brockington in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the eldest brother of nine children. He received his school education from the Anne Arundel County Public School System. Life's education began as he started working with his father in his hauling/trucking business at a young age. On January 18,1952, Sunny entered the United States Army. He received a National Defense Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, and a Korean Service medal. He would tell many stories of his memories of being in Korea. He was honorably separated on September 15,1954. Before and after service to the Army, Sunny worked as a truck driver. He later sold Wholesale Goods using his wit and innate skills as a businessman. Sunny was a Jazz Aficionado. His love and knowledge of Jazz could have placed him teaching in a University! He knew and could name all of the jazz musician greats and the history of the artist and the recording just by listening. He would daily listen to his jazz music while reading his Bible and devotions. Sunny was loved by many. He would always say that his name was spelled like the"Sun."This was reflected by the radiance he would give off to those he met. He was tough, but the most giving and caring person to meet. Sunny could tell . you stories for days and his unique deep voice entranced you. Big Mama faithfully took Sunny to church and he understood how essential it was to trust in the Lord. Later in his adult life, he accepted Jesus as his Personal Savior and was never ashamed to speak of His goodness and mercy to him throughout his life. He knew that it was prayers, beginning with his mother, that allowed him to see 82 years of life on this earth. Sunny was preceded in death by three brothers: Calvin, Charles, and Julius Brockington and two sisters: Audrey Brockington and Joyce Nowlin. He leaves to cherish his memory: three daughters, Kim Brockington, Latanya Brockington, and Courtney Jacobs; one son, Arthur J. Brockington; two granddaughters, Keira Bailey and Amor Jacobs; one special aunt, Auntie Leola Hayward; three sisters; Lorraine Kimble, Shirley Gregory, and Norma Lee Brockington; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
