Obituary

Audrey Mae Briscoe Weems was born Tuesday, August 27, 1935 to the late Lawrence

and Mary Briscoe. Audrey was the fourth child (second daughter) of the six children born

from this union.



As an infant, Audrey was baptized at the Ames Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church

(Ames Memorial United Methodist Church). Under the guidance and example of her

parents, Audrey grew in her faith and professed Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and

Savior. Audrey loved God with her whole heart and this love was manifested throughout

her entire life as she served God and the church. A faithful servant of Christ and member

of Ames, Audrey served on many ministries of the church and held several leadership

positions which include membership on the Committee on Finance, Christian Education,

Music Ministry, Communion Steward, Altar Guild, the Senior Board of Ushers, and was

a Certified Lay Servant.



Audrey received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System and was a

graduate of the Frederick Douglass Senior High School. In 1935, after completing her

education, Audrey married her teenage sweetheart and love of her life, Vernon N.

"Bunny" Weems. From this union, eight children were born: Rhonda, Fu-Rodney, Orrin,

Derwin, Jeffery, Sharon, Martin, and Landon. Audrey was employed by the United States

Social Security Administration for 35 years, and retired in 2002.



A member of several charitable, missional, community, and fraternal organizations,

Audrey was passionate about serving others and her community. She was a member of

the Order of the Eastern Star (Prince Hall Affricated), Eureka Chapter No. 11, where she

served as a Worthy Matron. Audrey was a member of the Improved Benevolent and

Protective Order of Elks of the World, Esther Progressive Temple No. 586 (Towson,

Maryland), where she served as Contest Manager for the Maryland and Tri-State

Oratorical Contest and Director of Education for the Maryland State I.B.P.O.E. W

Audrey was also a faithful member of the United Methodist Women of Ames United

Methodist Church where she helped to provide a great wealth of services and care to

women, children, and youth throughout the world. Also, through Ames UMC and the

AARP Foundation Experience Corps Baltimore, Audrey was an intergenerational volun-

teer tutor to children in the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPS). In 2010 and

2011, Audrey was featured in the Baltimore Sun Newspaper and the book Enhancing

Cognitive Fitness in Adults, tutoring third-grade children of the Waverly Elementary

School BCPS.



On the morning of Thursday, August 15,2019, Audrey Mae Briscoe Weems gracefully

transitioned from this life to eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was

preceded in death by her husband, Vernon N. Weems; brother Lawrence Briscoe; sisters

Ida Ann Thomas and Angela Banks.



Audrey leaves to celebrate her legacy two daughters, Rhonda Davis, and Sharon Weems;

five sons, Fu Weems, Orrin Weems, Derwin Weems, Jeffrey Weems, and Landon Weems;

a son-in-law, Curtis Davis; three daughters-in-law, Priscilla, Cecelia, and Cora; 12

grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother,

Robert M. Briscoe; a sister, Miriam B. Wade; two brothers-in-law, Donald Weems, and

Irvin Weems; three sisters-in-law, Doris Holland, Deborah Weems, Jeanette Weems, and

Sheila Weems; a host of loving nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
