Augustus D. Byrd, son of the late Edward and Estelle Byrd was born December 12, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was quietly called home on October 10, 2013. Augustus was brought up in South Baltimore, Maryland educated in the Baltimore City Public School System until his family moved to Pumphrey, Maryland. Everyone tailed him "Gus ". Gus enlisted in the United States Army. Served his country and was honorably discharged. After his discharge he worked in the construction field for many years until he and his friend decided to start their own company. "Brooks and Byrd Construction, Company". This company was a joy in his life. Because he enjoyed working with his hands and people. He especially took pride in homes and other things he helped to build. Whatever he did, he did it well. And he did not have a problem telling you how good his work was. He was married to the late Delores L. Byrd. And he was a father to her two children, Kevin and Karen Poulson who also preceded him in death. He was a fun loving and kind person who had many friends and many stories. Gus loved the Lord, and was not ashamed to say it. He was a simple guy. He didn't want anything but to be happy and to make sure his family was happy too. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. We will always remember his smile. But he '11 be remembered most by his favorite saying, "I'M DOING THE BEST I CAN WITH WHAT I GOT". That is so true now, because he is with the BEST, and he has the BEST of EVERYTHING. And His name is "Jesus". Cherishing his memories is his nephew, James Anderson and a multitude of friends.
