Barbara Lee Evans, a retired business owner and former social worker, died December 3 at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, Maryland. She was 78.
Until the last week of her life, Mrs. Evans loved to dance and laugh, joking as often as possible. She had bravely battled cancer for 16 years.
She had been an owner of Expressions Center, an African American-themed art and cultural store in the Lexington Market area, and had previously been an owner of Cee Bee Dee Distributors and, before that, Evans and Sons, a noted construction company in the Baltimore area. She started her professional life as a junior executive with Alexander's, Inc. in New York and later became asocial worker. She is a 1963 graduate of Howard University.
She was born in 1939 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Charles and Helen Baskerville. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clifford Evans, three children: Darryl, Sherrell, and Michael (Robyn), and five grandchildren: Michael Jr., Darryl Jr., Jalysa, Ava and Julia. She is also survived by two siblings, Leonard (Virgie) Baskerville of Catonsville, Maryland and Patricia Palmer of Atlanta, Georgia and numerous nieces and nephews, including Kalvan (Amanda) Palmer of Inwood, West Virginia.
