BARBARA WILERMENA MARTIN, was born on April
10,1940 to the late Mr. Harold and Mrs. Wilma Jones, in the
District of Columbia. She was the middle child and had two
other siblings, older brother, Harold Jones, Jr. (preceded her
in death) and a younger sister, Dorothy E. Butler.
Barbara was educated by the Baltimore City Public
School System.
In 1960 Barbara met and married the late Albertus Martin,
and from their union came two children.
On September 4, 1983, Barbara was fellowshipped into the
Leadenhall Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member
of the Angels of Mercy Senior Nurses Unit, Chairperson of the
Wednesday Noonday Prayer & Praise Service and served on
the Literary & Social Guild. Barbara loved her churchfamily
and friends, you could count on her every year to support
the Senior Nurses Annual Cookie Drive, where she sold the
most cookies. Barbara had a melodious voice and was not
afraid to sing out loudly for the opening hymn and any songs
in the worship service. She was known as "one of the three
ladies with the beautiful hats" when she sat with Sisters Ethel
Patterson and Juanita Diggs. One of her favorite pastimes
were to go out to eat dinner with Sister Janet Felder every
Sunday after church.
She will truly be missed by her family, church family,
neighbors and friends.
Barbara not only enjoyed caring for her family and
. friends, but she also enjoyed working and helping. She began
her employment service in 1960 as an Administrative Assistant
for Sinai Hospital, which she gave excellent service for 55
consecutive years, until she retired in 2014. She will be truly
missed by her good friend Mrs. Margie Banks and the rest of
the Sinai Hospital family.
Barbara was full of life and had one of the most contagious
laughs! She made friends everywhere she went, whether it
was shopping or riding the bus. Barbara always knew the
right thing to say to lift you up, encourage you, and make
you laugh if you were having a bad day. One of her favorite
things to do was to travel, shop, and spend time with her
friends and family.
Many who knew Barbara, know that "giving" was her
Love Language (away to express her care and love) and there
wasn't nothing that she would not do to help someone out.
"A good person gives life to others, the wise person
teaches others how to live. -Proverbs 11 :30 NCV
