BARBARA
JEAN POWELL,
daughter of the late David McCoy and the late Bertha lee Powell, was born on January 4, 1943 in Cherokee County, Sc. She was raised by Bernice and Fletcher Powell who raised her as their own. She viewed her heavenly home and quietly entered into it's gates on Sunday, April 16, 2017.
Barbara received her formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System.
After working many years in the nursing field, she retired from the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Her passion and love for helping others brought her out of retirement where she went on to do private duty nursing.
Barbara loved the lord and was a very active member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church.
Barbara was affectionately known to family and friends as "Bobbi". She loved spending time with family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. listening to oldie but goodies, doing hair and playing pinochle were some of her favorite things to do. She loved traveling and meeting new people. Everyone she came into contact with loved her right away, she had a heart of gold.
Preceding her in death are: Bernice and Fletcher Powell and a very special man, William Lomax Sr.
left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her four children, Quinlin Diggs, Darrell Lomax, Laurie Lomax-Adams and Carla (Kimm) Lomax; two sons-in-law, James Diggs and Ira (Disco) Adams; loving sister, Gearldine Gladden; aunt, Viola Leniar; thirteen grandchildren, Darrel, Keyon, Donavon, Howard, Janae, Jeffery, Courtney, Jermaine, Isiah, Jazmin, Ivan, Morgan and Treaven twenty-two great-grandchildren; Willam Lomax [r., who was like a son to her; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
