IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Basilisa M.
Gibson
July 9, 1935 – July 16, 2022
Basilisa Ogaro Mergal Gibson was born on July 9, 1935 to
Santurnino and Juanita Ogaro Mergal in Salcedo, Samar, Philippine
Islands. Basilisa enjoyed traveling. She moved away from her home
in Salcedo, Samar, and landed in Manila, Philippines. While she was
there, she met her husband, John. From this union, they were
blessed with sons Bernard, John III, Charles, and Daniel.
Basilisa and the family moved from Clark Air Force Base, Philippines,
to Baltimore, MD, where she and John would raise their sons. Basilisa
was a loving, nurturing mother and homemaker. She enjoyed
gardening, baking and cooking for her family. She would often make
large meals around the holidays, featuring her signature cakes and
cookies. Every year, she enjoyed attending The Preakness, where she
would collect her annual Preakness glass. In her spare time, she would
enjoy watching tv, doing word searches, playing cards, going to the
casino, playing bingo, and Pokeno. She loved being outside during the
warm weather. She absolutely loved plants and gardening vegetables.
Basilisa battled years of health issues. Basilisa knew her time was
short and took every moment to express her love for her family. To
the very end, Basilisa was a fighter. Her work here on earth is now
done. She transitioned from this life on July 16, 2022.
Basilisa was preceded in death by her Father and Mother,
Santurnino and Juanita Ogaro Mergal, and husband John Gibson Jr.
She leaves to cherish her life and memories, her sons, Bernard
(Kim), John III (Angela), Charles (Rowena), and Daniel (Shenoa);
sister-in-law Marguerite; nieces Lisa and Tiffany, and a host of
grandchildren and great grandchildren, and all other relatives and
friends including her best friend Maria Thompson.
