Bernadine Yi-DeGeneste, 76 went home to be with the Lord

on May 22, 2017, after a long-term battle with cancer and(

related complications. Bernadine was born on April 8, 1941,

in Newark, NJ. and raised in Long Branch NJ.

Bernadine was a retired veteran of the NYPD and later served as
Chief-of-Staff for State Representative Wf. Curtis Thomas, 181 Legis-
lative District of Philadelphia County.
She leaves to celebrate her horne-going four adult children; Lacy Hemphill, Jr., Brian Hemphill, Carla McArthur, Eric Hemphill, Sr., as well as her grandchildren Athena Hemphill, Ashley McArthur, Adonia McArthur, Asiel McArthur, Andrew McArthur, Rasheena Harper, Jermaine Hemphill, Eric C'EJ") Hennphill, Jr., Erica Hemphill, Evan Hemphill, Nia Hemphill, Maayan Hemphill, nephews; Major Smith, Ahmed Smith, Parrish Smith and a of host cousins and great grandchildren. Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents Emma Gray and Albernie Cumbland, and her adoptive parents Samuel and Sarah Brantley, and her son Kirk ("Corky") Hemphill, and her sister Barbara Cumbland-Gray.
