Bernice Sarah Johnson daughter of Rilou and Maggie
Kelly , was born on A pril 13, 1919 in Baltimore , Maryland.
Bernice was affectionatel y known a s Ms . Bernice or Bernie
Baby to her family and friends. She departed this life peace-
fully in the early morning on February 1, 2017 at St . Agnes
Hospital, with her daughter Robin by her side.

Bernice received her formal early education in Whitestone ,
Virginia and graduated from Frederick Douglass High
School, and later received her Maryland State Beautician ' s
License . Bernice met and married the love of her life, her
late husband Alfred "Box " Johnson, and out of this union
was born a son , Alfred " Ricky" , and one daughter, Robin
Antoinette.

Bernice was an entrepreneur and opened a hai r salon on
Payson Street in West Baltimore. She serviced that commu-
nity many years before retiring to become a stay-at-home
mother and raised her children . While her children were
growing, she returned to the workforce and started a career
in food service for the Marriott Corporation at the Marriott
Inflight Service, where she worked for 25 years before
retiring in 1977.

Bernice loved gambling , and enjoyed playing her numbers ,
going to the race track at Pimlico, along with taking day
trips with her son to play the s lots at Maryland Live. She
was known for her delicious potato salad and crab imperial .
Bernice loved to take family trips to the beach at Sand y
Point State Park. She was an avid baseball fan and loved

watching the Orioles. She was also a big fan of the Game
Show Network, and her favorite show was Family Feud.

Bernice always greeted you with a "Hi baby" and a warm
smile. Her most pleasure came from caring for her grand-
children and great grandchildren . She gave her life to Christ
on February 8, 2010. Bernice continued to give her life to
Christ by rededicating her life to Christ ten additional times :

February 25,2010; February 26,2010; May 16,2011; May
27, 2012; January 27, 2013; September 18, 2013 ; May 2,
2015; June 2,2015; December 4, 2016 and January 26, 2017 .

Bernice leaves to cherish her memory , her devoted son,
Alfred "Ricky" Johnson (Tonia); her treasured daughter ,
Robin A. Adams (Charles); loving sister , Geraldine Thomp-
son; grandson , Suleiman Pasha and granddaughter, Sharie
Carroll; great grandchildren , Imyne , Suleiman Jr., Hasan
and Zoey Pasha, and Zion Taylor-Pasha ; devoted nieces and
nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alfred
"Box" Johnson, Sr.; brothers, Joseph Gordon and Billy
Cole; sisters, Mamie Jones and Thelma Kelly; sister-in-
law's, Lucille Robinson, Mattie Clark , Caroline Cole and
Alma Gordon, and grandson Sultan Ramzes Pasha.
