IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bertha Drucilla
Pryor-Woods
September 5, 1942 – May 4, 2024
Bertha Drucilla Pryor-Woods was affectionately known as Bertie and Bert. She was born September 5,1942, to the late Walter and Helen Pryor. She left us peacefully on May 13, 2024, after a brief illness.
Bert attended Booker T. Washington Junior High and Frederick Douglass Senior High Schools. She attended the Enoch Baptist Church in Baltimore Md. She was employed as a Nursing Aide. She achieved a Senior Nursing Aide
at the Maryland General Hospital, now known as the University of Maryland-Midtown.
Bert lived a full life. Her one sister, Hattie Conwell, preceded her in death. She was blessed with one daughter, Crystal Burnette with the late Vance Burnette, and two grandchildren, Christopher Burnette and Tanae Hodge,
and one great-grandson, Blake Dawson. Bert's grandchildren loved her dearly. She adored them and talked about them and shared photos of them so proudly. She talked about their achievements; She attended Christophers high school and college football games; and she talked about Tenae being the talented beautician she is. She
enjoyed playing with her great-grandson, Blake on this past Mother's Day; She was so thrilled.
Bert met and married the love of her life, the late Charles William Woods, also known as Sonny. Bert would help out at his business. She would receive incoming packages and serve the clientele. On the off days, she and Sonny
would travel and see movies together.
Bert was a loving person. She loved everyone, beyond her family. Friends would be treated as if they were family when they visited her in her home. She would serve her guest a cool drink and a hearty meal. Bert loved to
entertain. She was what one would describe as the "hostess-with-the-mostest." She loved music. She had two of her cousins sing to her request Ruth Brown's "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean," as well as some old-time
Gospel music.
Bert's greatest past time was indeed travel. She never obtained a Driver's License, but that didn't stop her. As a younger person, Bert traveled extensively. Later, her travel was to New York, New Jersey, and Virginia, to visit
relatives there. When she slowed down to some to degree, she had some favorite cousins who could get her out of the house fast. Two cousins, who preceded her in death were Charles Pryor and Claude Davis. But when, as
Bert would say, "Got it together," she was ready. She had a cousin she traveled with a lot. Once this cousin visited Bert in her home, but Bert had plans for her because Bert had "got herself together." Bert had her clothes
ironed on hangers. She had macaroni salad and boiled eggs prepared. One could smell chicken for miles. The cousin arrived to fulfill Bert's plan to travel to the Garden in New Jersey where Claude lived. The surprised cousin was asked by Sonny, "How long are you staying?" The cousin replied, "I don't know. Bert traveled to the Garden.
Charles and his siblings came down from New York to the Garden. Bert hitched a ride with them. They left the Garden in New Jersey, they traveled through Baltimore MD, and ended the traveled to prospect VA.
Bert's great personality will be missed. She leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter, Crystal Burnette, two grandchildren, Christopher Burnette and Tenae Hodge, one great-grandson, Blake Dawson, and a host of
relatives and friends.
The family of the late Bertha Drucilla Pryor-Woods wishes to thank family and friends for the many acts of kindness and support shown to them during this time of bereavement. May God continue to bless you and keep
you in His care
