Betty J. Gladden was one of seven children born to the late 'V'alter and Helen Thomas on June 28, 1939 in Beckley, West Virginia .. She departed this life on July 1, 2016. after a lengthy illness, in Keswick Multi-Care Center.

Betty began her formal education in Beckley, but finished it in Baltimore after her family moved to Maryland. Baltimore is where she met and married George Sellman Sr. From this union George Sellman Jr. was born. George Sr. preceded Betty in death in the year 1975.

Many of her love ones preceded her in death .. Her parents, her sisters Annie May and Ida May, her brother Willie B. Jr. and her second husband Mr. Leslie Gladden.

In spite of enduring the loss of many loved ones, Betty was a strong willed lady. She was a member of Apostolic Temple in Baltimore, was a faithful Tither, and attended church regularly until her health began to fail. In her healthier days before going into Keswick, Betty was a very independent lady who love to stay on the go. She would hop on a Greyhound bus and head across country at the drop of a hat. She always said "the world owes me nothing, because I had my fun." Many people use to tease ! her about her 'Motor Scooter" she was pretty good at wheeling that thing around the streets of Baltimore. Her favorite color was red, she had a passion for jewelry, and truly treasured her grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son George Sellman Jr.; three sisters Teressa Henderson (peter), Imogene Gradison, and Helen Hall (Arthur); two granddaughters, LaTasha Gilmore and Charnelle Walker; a special bond with her three grandsons George, Justin and Joseph; and her ten great grand children; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a great friend Caroline Wood.
