Tanner
June 19, 1940 – September 9, 2019
Betty Jean Tanner was born June 19, 1940 in Chester, South Carolina to the late
John and Heselene McCullough. She was called home to glory on Monday,
September 9, 2019.
Betty was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools.
She was employed at Westinghouse in Baltimore, MD. After 8 years she went
into business with her older sister. Several years later she received her certificate
in Community Services and was employed for 25 plus years as a Program
Coordinator for the AFL-CIO.
In 1958 Betty married George A. Tanner. To their union three daughters were
born, Iszella, Paula, and Sharon.
In 1989 Betty joined The Grace Memorial Baptist Church; where she served as
the Church Clerk for 20 plus years. In addition, she served on the Mother's
Circle, the Missionary and the Pastor's Aid Ministries, as well as president of the
Building Fund.
Betty was affectionately called by her children, grandchildren, and great-grand-
children as "Grandma."
Betty was known to be open minded, honest, and straight forward but always had
your best interest at heart. God blessed her with a heart that allowed her to raise
her grandchildren especially Brian who has special needs.
Betty leaves to cherish fond memories: her husband George. Three daughters
Iszella, Paula, and Sharon; Five grandchildren, Tiffany, Brandon, Morgan,
Brittany, and Brian; Two great-grandchildren Maleah, and Malachi; One sister,
Eliza Jennings; four brothers-in-law, Robert Jennings Sr., Walter Tanner, Jasper
Tanner (Wanda), Lorenzo Tanner (Patricia), Two sisters-in-law Haddie Dunston
and Vern etta Tanner. One nephew, Robert Jennings Jr.; Three nieces, Robin
Fulmore (EI Paso Texas), Denise McCullough and June McCullough; One aunt,
Winnie Distance; Several great- nieces, and great-nephews, and a host of rela-
tives and friends.
