Obituary

Blanche Stokes-Walker, was born to the late Daniel Augustus and Dorothy Amos-Stokes on August 25, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland. Blanche's lifelong religious and spiritural journey began at a young age a New Shiloh Baptist Church of Fremont Avenue and Lanvale Street. Later in life, she moved her membership to Colonial Baptist Church under the leadership of Minister Robert Anderson, Jr. She attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Douglass High School and attended the Community College of Baltimore. Sister Walker was employed for many years at Westinghouse and worked a short time for K-Mart in Randallstown, Maryland. Blanche enjoyed playing her keyboard, organ and listening to contemporary jazz and gospel music. As a child she began playing the piano, and teasingly she was known as ''Nimmy Nimmy Knot'' or ''Annie Ann''. Oh yes, Nimmy Nimmy Knot could play. She leaves to cherish her memory: two aunts, James LaForest of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Justine Walker of Baltimore, Maryland; sister-in-law, Audrey; nephews, Charles P. Stokes of New Jersey, Dwight Johnson, Terrell, Kevin and Craig Stokes all of Baltimore, Maryland; nieces, Donnita White Johnny of North Carolina, Donna Smith, Sharon, Xavier, Eris, Kim, Sharlene, Lorae, Carla and Tanyae Stokes all of Baltimore, Maryland; three stepsons, Vaughn Walker of Louiville, Kentucky, Don and Edwin Walker of Fort Washington, Maryland; twenty-five great-nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank her cousins who served as her primary caregivers Corliss Waker and Rhonda McCray, who loved her like and aunt.
