Obituary

Brustus Augustus Edwards, 70, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Gilchrist Hospice care/Gilchrist Center following a lengthy illness. He was born October 17, 1941 in Wilson, North Carolina to the late John Edwards ad Katherine Edwards Washington. He was reared further by a loving stepfather, Otis Washington, who Bruce affectionately called "Pop", who also preceded him in death. Brutus was educated in the public school system of Wilson, North Carolina. the family later moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he was a lifelong resident. He was employed by the Sanitation department of Baltimore City for 31 years and was a devoted and faithful worker until his health failed. He was introduced to and accepted Christ at an early age and later became a member of Spirit and Truth New Testament Christian Church, under the direction of Pastor David Brown Sr. He met his wife, Clarice Goodwin who preceded him in death. Mabel Keene was a devoted and special friend for many years thereafter, until her death in February 2006. Together they shared the responsibility of raising and nurturing her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. He took pride in his work and family, relishing the many friends he made along the way. He cherished family gatherings most of all and could be heard singing and seen dancing; just enjoying life, even during times of severe pain and discomfort. He referred to himself as "tall", "tan", and "terrific". Bruce was a delight to know and will truly be missed by all. He leaves to cherish fond memories; four brothers, Eddie, Joe, Michael and Stanley; Ray preceded him in death; three sisters, Linda, Phyllis and Jacqueline; five loving sisters-in-law, Yvonne, Vicky, Marilyn, Ernestine and Marilyn Houston; one brother-in-law, Vincent and a host of nieces, nephews and numerous relatives and frieds.
