THE LIFE AND TIMES of Callene Callene Sye, daughter of the late Thomas Washington and the late Gertrude Washington, was born on January 28, 1930 in Chester, South Carolina. She peacefully departed this life on February 21, 2025.

Callene or "T-nine" as she was affectionately known, received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She worked as a Home Daycare Provider for over 40 years. Callene loved cooking especially baking. She was known for her amazing homemade cakes and biscuits. She took pride in the fact that people all over Baltimore paid her for her scrumpious cakes. Callene was also a highly sought after master seamstress.

In 1948, Callene was united in holy matrimony to the late Clarence ye Sr. From this union, 9 children were born. Callene also provided a loving and nurturing home for many of her grandchildren.

Callene was a strong, independent woman with a loving and gentle spirit. She was a true friend and the matriarch of her family. She loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. They could do no wrong in her eyes. She is preceded in death by 5 children (Barbara, Melvin, Lawrence Sr, Arnold and William Sr), 2 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and 6 siblings (Eugene, Thomas Jr, Andrew, Elizabeth, Maurice, and James).

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children: Clarence Jr, Brenda McCrae, Sherry Tolson, and Sheila Redd; sister: Shirley Washington; son-in-law: Alfred Tolson; daughters-in-law: Jo An Sye and Rose Sye; 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandsons, nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of other relatives.
