Obituary

CARL LLEWELLYN VAUGHN, SR. was born on May 10, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the youngest son of John and Grace Vaughn (nee Camper). He was the brother of Eloise Vaughn Bright and Donald Vaughn (deceased). Carl departed this life after a brief illness on November 20, 2014. He received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. He graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1943. After high school Carl enlisted in the military and served in World War II in Central Burma and India Burma. He also received several decorations, The Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon. He received an honorable discharge and gained employment in the United States Postal Service, Maryland Lumber Company and ended his career in the National Security Agency. Carl met his wife, Ethel (Bushrod) at John Wesley Church and they were married on September 6, 1947. They were blessed with three children, Kendell, Joyce Carla and Carl, J r. For many years he was a member of Shiloh Christian Community Church where he served as a sub-deacon, on the usher board, troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America, mentor for young married couples and volunteered in the soup kitchen twice a week. He later became a member of Union Memorial where he served as a greeter and was involved in Bible Study and the Men's Group. In 1976, Carl and the cousins started a social club, The Vaughn Clan, and they enjoyed many years of fellowship at family gatherings and social events. In retirement every morning he joined 'The McDonald Gang" for coffee and lively discussions around politics and current events. He was a member of the Masons Morning Star Lodge #44 and also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Thomas McLloyd Memorial Post #381. Carl will always be remembered for his energetic personality, his charm and compassion, his fairness and honesty, and his willingness to help others. He loved life and he loved people. He was always there for his family and friends. Few men have been fortunate enough to live such a full life. He leaves to mourn: his wife, Ethel; children, Kendell (Amos Matthews), Carla (Perry Farrington, [r) and Carl Jr. (Stephanie); seven grandchildren, Brandon, Perry Ill, Nikkia, Carrie, Carletta, Debra and Michael; great- grandchildren, Amari, Gabrielle, Jordan, Tanava, Danard, Mariah, Jason and Anastasia; and his sister, Eloise Bright. He is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Viewing Joseph H.
