Obituary

Carmen Martina Campbell was born on July 15, 1957 to the late Alverta Stevenson and Howard Jones in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on March 15, 2012. Carmen, loving known to many as "Marty" or Martina,"" was educated in Glen Burnie/Pasadena schools. She attended Freetown Elementary School, George Fox Middle School and graduated from Northeast High School. She also attended Anne Arundel County Community College. During her life in Maryland, Carmen and Edward A. Stewart gave birth to Ja'Nelled in 1978. She was employed at Bello Machre in Freetown for several years. Four years later she met Eric Campbell during a visit to Philadelphia, PA. They married 7 months later, In 1983 Carmen and Eric gave birth to their second daughter, Erica. While Eric served in the United States Navy, the family relocated to Suffolk, Virginia where they continue to reside today. In Virginia, Carmen was employed with the City of Portsmouth for 10 years and the City of Virginia Beach more than 17 years working with mentally challenged adults. A tented and creative woman, Carmen enjoyed many different hobbies. She had a gift of baking and often sold her goods to restaurants. She credits that gift to her Stevenson roots! Throughout her youth and as a young adults, she had a passion for music. She shared her beautiful alto voice with many while she sang in a band. She also sought solace in gardening, growing tomatoes, okra, flowers and herbs in her backyard. Carmen began her Christian journey at Hall Methodist Church in Glen Burnie, Maryland. In Virginia she continued her worship at Kingdom Stewards in Portsmouth, Virginia. It is through his journey we take comfort in knowing that she has gone home to rest with the Lord. Carmen leaves to mourn her husband, Eric Wesley Campbell, stepmother Helen Jones, mother -in-law, Earthalee Montgomery, daughters Ja'Nnelle Alverta Parson and Eric Leontyne Carroll, son-in-law, Colden Dwight Carroll, Sr., son at heart, Alvin Royster, granddaughters, Karisma Martina Lavonne Folston, Ayanna Margurite Zipporah Stewart, Emya Anna Campbell and Aniyah Antoinette Carroll, grandsons, Quinton Darnell Lamont Folston, Sincere Emil Ferguson and Kyler Emmanuel Campbell, sister Annie Mae Davis, brothers, Reed Kimberly Jones and Howard Jones,, Jr., nephews Damon Jones, Howard Jones, III and Rocky Reed Jones, one uncle Claymond Stevenson, one aunt Aletha Stevenson, brothers-in-law, Robert and Anthony Montgomery, sisters-in-law Via and Ethel Jones and a host of other family and friends.
