Carrie Mae Barnes, daughter of Whitfield and Pasty Greene, was born September 2, 1916 in Charlotte Courthouse, VA. She departed this life on January 15, 2009 after a lenghty illness. She received her early education in Charlotte Courthouse, VA. She was baptized in the The Name of Jesus at the First Apostolic Faith Church, Baltimore, MD on July 22, 1990. She married the late Henry Hodge, Sr. and out of this union were seven children: four sons, Henry, John, Charlie and Walter; and three daughters, Zenobia, Alice and Gloria. She later met and married Andrew Barnes. Carrie was a devoted wife. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her sense of humor was second to none. She loved being amongst her family and friends. She was always there in a time of need. Her doors were always open to everyone. She loved going downtown to shop and visiting Lexington Market. She was witty and snazzy. She just loved being around people. She had a smile and a laugh that was contagious. Last but not least, she loved the Lord. Preceding her in death are her husband Andrew Barnes, two sons John and Charlie Hodge, two daughters Zenobia Baker and Alice Faye Nettles, one brother Walter Hodge, three sisters Francis Watkins, Alice Johnson and Essie Hood. She leaves to cherish her momery: sons, Henry and Walter Hodge;daughter, Gloria Crawford; son-in-law, Reno Crawford; a devoted niece, Margaret Watkins; nine grandsons, three granddaughters, two grandsons-in-law, three granddaughters-in-law, four great-grandsons, five great-granddaughters, one great-great grandson, one great-great-granddaughter and a host of other relatives and friends.
