Cathereen Carroll was born August 19, 1928 in Camden, south Carolina to the late Columbus and Martha Carroll. She was the fourth of eight children. She received her formal education in the South Carolina Public Schools. Upon completion of her education, she met and married the late James Slater. To this union she had three children, James Jr. wife Brenda, Martha Ann deceased, and Julia Ann. After James Sr.'s death, Cathereen moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she met and married the late William Bruce Sr. From this union, Cathereen had five children, William Jr. Felicia, Larry wife Patrecia, Willie Mae, David, and Barbara husband Alistair. Cathereen and William were married for thirty years until his untimely death in 1986. Cathereen worked at the Congress Hotel in downtown Baltimore in the Housekeeping Department for twenty-two years until her retirement. Cathereen loved spending time with her grandchildren and visiting family and friends. She also volunteered services at the Waxter Senior Center. Cathereen is survived by the above mentioned children and their spouses. She is also survived by two brothers, Columbus Carroll Jr., of Camden, S.C., and Elouise Bell of Boston, Mass., and Pearl Lee Watson of Baltimre, Md. Cathereen also leaves fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends. Preceding her in death is one brother, Claver wife Virginia; and sister, Lucille Johnson husband Prince.
