Catherine Jane Ray Grays, affectionately known as Momma or Kitten, was born on April 9, 1921 in Clayton, North Carolina. The daughter of the late Ida Tomlinson and James William Ray. She suddenly departed this life of December 14, 2013 a short illness. Momma received her education in Raleigh, North Carolina Public School System. She then went on to marry the love of her life the late Vester Grays. At the age of nineteen they relocated to Baltimore, where they started a family, out of this union eleven children were born who preceded her in death; Betty, Vester, Ella, Elaine, Iris, Howard, Robin, Bonnie, Prennis, Mary, and Betty Jean. Momma loved to cook, make frozen cups and snowballs. Most of all, she loved her family. She was the backbone and the angel of our family. Everybody that knew her loved her. She would help anyone no matter what the situation. Momma had a very warm and loving personality, she had a twinkle in her eye that would light up a room. He loved her family so much that she raised five generations of children. Catherine leaves to mourn; one sister, Darlene Watson; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, and a host of great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
