IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Catherine L.
Wright
January 20, 1943 – January 28, 2017
Catherine L. Wright
daughter of the late Elizabeth Tolson and the late
George Naylor was born on January 20, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Catherine was raised by her mom and a special dad, the late Lewis H.
Tolson Sr. She departed this life on January 28, 2017, after a brief illness.
Catherine, more affectionately known as "Kay" received her formal
education in Baltimore City Public School System. Her early years were
spent working as a beautician. Back in the day, she took pride in leading
the Baltimore City Clean Block Campaign on Brice Street, making sure
that everyone cleaned the block and decorated their planter tires with
beautiful plants in hopes of winning the recognition of being mentioned
in the Afro American Newspaper, even getting the little children in-
vol ved so that they can get their pictures taken for the newspaper. Later
her love for kids led her to working in childcare until she became ill. Kay
also enjoyed working the election polls. Because she loved to travel so
much, it would upset her dearly when she couldn't go; she never wanted
to stay home. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends,
especially playing cards with her "Golden Girls" (Evelyn, Deborah Ann,
and Shell).
Kay was a very faithful and devoted member of the New Union Baptist
Church where she served in the Nurses Ministry, Flower Circle, and
helping with Sunday School. Kay will truly be missed. Her favorite
saying was "Have a Blessed day."
Catherine was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise Lyles and her
brother Brian R. Tolson. She leaves to cherish her memory: two sisters,
Barbara Booker and Priscilla E. Tolson; three brothers, Franklin Tolson;
Gurnee Tolson; Lewis H. Tolson, Jr. (Brigitte); one aunt, Ernestine
Braxton; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces; great nephews; cousins,
family and friends.
