Obituary

Cecelia Bernadette Williams affectionately known as Sissy was the born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 9th, 1931. She was the second born of 15 children to the late James Louis Griffin and Cecelia Rita Griffin. (Matthews)

On August 20th, 2026 with the love and comfort of her great great grand daughter Alexis Gillis by her side, Sissy transitioned from this life to be with the Lord.

Sissy loved the Lord and accepted Him as her Personal Lord and Savior at a very young age. Her love for the Lord overflowed in how she loved and cared for those around her.

In her dedication to praying and learning about the Bible, she would often share and use these teachings to help lift, strengthen and encourage others. She immensely enjoyed reading and Bible studying with her sister Theresa. First thing in the morning, middle of day lunching and last thing before closing her eyes, they would find themselves on the phone cackling as they’ loved to do.

Cecelia, fondly called Sissy, was educated within the Catholic School System. After completion of High School, she went on to become a nurse and secured a position with Fort Howard Hospital.

There she received several recognition awards for her service, patient care, and dedication.

She was also known for her other amazing attributes. Sissy was intelligent, witty & adaptable, and these qualities allowed her to persevere and achieve many great things.

As the eldest sister of her siblings, she inspiringly led the way with her nurturing love, warm spirit, optimism and wise counseling. Sissy took her role as a big sister with great pride as she often shared stories of her sister Angela which whom she referred to as her baby. Her words of encouragement contributed to her brothers and sisters growing into responsible, productive and successful adults. She set the example of leadership, and as a result, they also became responsible leaders in their careers & families of their own.

Sissy was the proud grandmother of Christopher, Reginald, Ryan, Esau, Rahim, Ahmad, Jalil, Rafi, Cynthina, Antonia and Melissa; Great Grandmother of Antoinette, Derrick, Davon, Tierice, Tavon, Melissa, Gindell, Ashley, Wayne, Rahim and Shawntray. And 19 great great grandchildren who all admired her greatly. She was gladly matriarchal in exercising her leadership in their lives. Sissy also had an amicable and indelible relationship with her many nieces and nephews by whom she was loved and respected. She was always happy to see them.

Sissy looked forward to any time spent with her family. Her famous line...... let’s go out to eat!
