January 21, 1936 – April 22, 2017
Celestine Lewis one daughter of the late Herbert and Hattie Bates born on January 21, 1936 in New Jersey. She departed this life on April 22, 2017 after a lengthy battle with her illness.
Celestine moved to Baltimore, MD in 1941 and was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools. She was employed at Harbor Side Nursing Home for over 10 years.
Celestine was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, and aunt.
Celestine made friends very easily. She loved to help her family and friends. She had a heart of gold. If you needed something she was always there for you and tried her very best to get it. Miss Spicy, known by some will be missed by everyone. When she rolled her eyes, family members said, you got the point. On weekends, after a long work week Celestine loved to dance, and listen to music, some of the family members named her dance the funky roll, but, we are going to leave it there. One of her favorite songs she played for hours was by Whitney Houston-"I Wanna Dance With You". Celestine would play that record over, over and over. You would just sit there and not say a word, but say to yourself, is she ever going to play something else. One thing for sure you knew, Celestine Lewis, as she would say, "I enjoyed this life".
She leaves to mourn: her three daughters, Bernice, Vertina, and Zina; two sisters, Stella Lewis (husband the late Johnny Lewis), and Harriet Penny; three brothers, Arnold Bates, two preceded in death, Robert and Herbert Bates; one brother-in-law, Francis Penny; one sister-in-law, Connie; son- in-law, Greg; five grandchildren, Tyese, Candice, Keara, Kena and Keon- tae; six great grandchildren, Tyshae, Jatwon, Tra'ne, Logan, Raimond and Kinsley; two great great grandchildren, Tylin and god bless, one on the way Denver. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, to many to be named, one very Special friend and partner, L.c.
