Obituary

CHARLES PRESTON JOHNSON, SR., son of the late Richard and
Marion Johnson, was born on December 1, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland.
He was the middle child of three children born to this union.

Charles was an exceptional father and loved his children dearly. He was
very loyal, lovable, and dedicated. He showed them the true definition of
love and devotion. There was never a task too big or a job too small that he
could not fix for them. He was the "go to man," "the rock," "the support,"
and "superman" to his children. Whenever they needed him, he always
delivered with impeccable timing. He was magnificent in every way and
assured them that if no one else had their backs, he certainly did! He made
sure that he was there physically, financially and emotionally. Unbeknownst
to his children, "Daddy" was sick for a while; however, his strength and
dedication would not allow him to feel defeated. His resilient character
spoke volume; his smile warmed and won the hearts of his children. He was
their true "Black King," their gem, and their diamond in the rough.

"REDS," as he was affectionately called, loved life and appreciated
it. He also loved people. There was never a dull moment whenever he was
around. He was best known to mingle amongst anybody, anywhere. He was
never a stranger to anyone he met. Charles was respected in his beloved
City, Baltimore. He was a strong man who didn't take any stuff; yet he was
kind and gentle and always looked for an opportunity to help someone.
Because of his warm and caring spirit, people loved him and gravitated
to him. He loved music and the finer things in life, especially vehicles. A
Cadillac was his favorite car.

Charles Johnson, Sr. was the owner of Charles and Sons, Inc. He was
also employed by the City of Baltimore.

DEACON CHARLES PRESTON JOHNSON, SR. was a devoted
member of The New Metropolitan Baptist Church. He united with this
branch of Zion in 2002. He was a member of the Deacon Board, the Male
Chorus and the Bread of Life Food and Clothing Ministries. He truly enjoyed
going to church and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Like with
his children, he was the "go-to" man for his Pastor and his church family.
He would assist in any capacity needed. He did not think it was robbery to
sweep or mop the floors, take out the trash, help someone get to church,
serve or deliver food to those in need, assist with funerals, or open and close
the church. In fact, he served in so many capacities, they are too numerous
to name. Suffice it to say that whenever the doors of the church were open,
Deacon Johnson was there. Not only was he there, he was always working!
In the midst of working hard, he enjoyed laughing and fellowshipping with
his Pastor and his church family. He was unquestionably a man of God and
exemplified his love for Christ and his church family in a magnificent way.

DEACON CHARLES PRESTON JOHNSON, SR. departed this life
peacefully on Wednesday, January 3,2018.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Craig and Antonio, and two
daughters, Antoinette and Charlene.

He leaves his precious memories to be cherished by: six loving daughters,
Shelia Johnson, Charlene King, Portia Johnson, Christina Johnson, LaToya
Brown, and Michaela Miller; one son, Charles Johnson, Jr.; two sisters,
Ethel Jett and Margaret Dees; one brother-in-law, Ernest Dees; and a host
of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and Pastor Dickens
and his New Metropolitan Church family.
