Obituary

Charles P. Lewis, son of the late Turner and Katie Lewis, was born on March 14, 1910 in Newport News, Virginia. On Friday, November 25, 2005, Charles stepped beyond the gate where our Father claims His own. We rejoice in knowing that he is resting peacefully with God. He received his education in the Virginia School System. He worked as a Longshoreman for thirty-five years at the Steamship Trade Company. At a young age, Charles gave is life to Christ and was a longtime member of Emmanuel Christian Church under the pastorate of Reverend Sidney Daniels. After forty years he was led to Higher Dimensions Christian Center uner the leadership of Bishop Earl Wortham, where he worshipped for four years. Once again, with the leading of the Holy spirit he united with the Freedom Missionary Community Church under the pastorate of Reverend Charles Dunn, Jr., where he served out his final days of worshipping God on earth. He loved his Pastor and his church family. Charles met and was united in holy matrimony to the late Lillian Clark. From this union two children were born, Marie Garner and Esther Tyrell who preceded him in death. Charles made numerous friends wherever he went and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew him. He was always a true friend and devoted family man. He leaves to mourn, but cherished his memory and sweet spirit: one daughter, Maria Garner; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
