Obituary

CHARLIE E. QUICK was born on April 12, 1942 in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Silas and Myzer Sims Quick. He departed this life on March 19, 2013 at Gilchrist Hospice in Baltimore, Maryland. Charlie graduated from Eastside High School in 1962. He migrated to Baltimore, Maryland in 1963 and began a brief career as an agent for North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company. In 1964, he married the former Maxine Williams and this union produced one daughter, Tracey. He then started a second career at Armco Steel, where he would retire from after thirty years of service. In 1979, he would become a proud parent again with the birth of his second daughter, Shana. "Charlie" or "C.Q" as he was affectionately known had a keen business sense and unflagging work ethic that led him to many entrepreneurial endeavors. Charlie was a loyal friend and confidante, who excelled in logic thinking, mathematics and accounting. He often assisted other entrepreneurs in the daily operation of their businesses. He was a successful gas station and auto repair shop owner for many years. In later years, he would re-invent himself as a business partner to many family-owned and local businesses including nightclubs,, social clubs and restaurants. He was very well known in Baltimore's social scene. Charlie was always well dressed and kept his appearance polished and immaculate. Charlie was an avid sports fan, a fan of soul music, especially James Brown, and in recent years, a fan of jazz drummers and horn players, namely Max Roach and Grover Washington Jr. He was a key advisor to his children, his family, his friends and strangers offering much wisdom laced with common sense. He is remembered for being witty, charming, honest, independent and a very private person. "C.Q." absolutely lived life to its fullest and on his own terms. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy Dease, Mary McRae and Bobbie Jean Ivery; and brother, Archie Quick. He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Tracey and Shana; three sisters, Mattie Ruth Dukes, Margaret "CAT" Quick and Brenda McCall; three brothers, Willie Quick, James Quick and Jimmy Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be anymore pain; for the former things are passed away". - Revelation 21:4
