Obituary- Charlotte Skinner Bennett
Charlotte Skinner Bennett was the daughter of Mary Etta (Robinson) and George Lawrence Skinner, Sr. She was born on September 11, 1928, in Baltimore, MD. She departed this life into peaceful rest on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Augsburg Lutheran Home, in Baltimore County, MD.
Charlotte received her education from St. Peter Claver Grade School, Saint Frances School for Colored Girls, and Morgan State University. In 1948, she married Mayfield P. Bennett, and from their union she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, affectionately known as "Polly." Charlotte loved being a mother, and she devoted her life to caring for Polly.
Charlotte was employed by the Baltimore City Police Department and the Social Security Administration headquarters, where she held a supervisor role and later retired; post-retirement, she worked as a medical transcriber. In her free time, she enjoyed playing Bingo and taking trips to Atlantic City. Charlotte will be remembered as a successful real estate investor, owning numerous properties throughout Baltimore City. She was a devout Catholic and attended both St. Peter Claver and St. Ambrose Catholic Churches.
Charlotte spent her final years living in Augsburg Lutheran Home, where she received exceptional care from their staff. Her devoted nephew, Dorsey Skinner, Jr. was her long time caregiver.
Charlotte leaves to cherish her memory her step-daughter, Rita Whiting; nephews, George (Marilynne) Parker, and Dorsey (Vera) Skinner, Jr.; nieces, Charlotte Skinner, Yolanda (Eldred) Stewart, Raquel Gilmer and Shelley Nelson; cousin, Charles Skinner; great nephews, Blake Berry, Kwesi, Omari and Ahmed Parker, Xavier Douglas, Don Mays and Charles Harrison, Jr.; great nieces, Taylor and Lindsey Skinner, Hasina and Shani Brunson, Kiari and Jamila Stewart, Tanya Harrison and Tieela Mays; and a host of other family and loved ones.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her former husband, Mayfield P. Bennett; daughter, Virginia Palmera "Polly" Bennett; step-daughter, Sharon B. Freeland; brother, Dorsey A. Skinner, Sr.; sister, Mary V. Nelson; nephews, Benard Burrell and Chane C. Parker; nieces, Linda Mays and Yvonne Harrison.
