Bracy-Johnson
February 15, 1955 – January 31, 2018
Charlotte Suzanne Bracy
affectionately known as "Cheri" was born
to Joseph B. Bracy and Airra E. Bracy on February 15,1955. A native
of Baltimore, Maryland "Cheri" enjoyed many summers on Martha's
Vineyard Island with "Mom", her grandmother. Cheri liked swimming,
cycling, and making lifelong friendships on this picturesque island.
Charlotte was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System
and went on to pursue a degree in Social Work at the University of
Maryland, College Park. It was during this time she was motivated
by her sister, JoAnn Starks a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
(Alpha Gama Chapter) Morgan State University to become a Delta.
When she returned to the University of Maryland; she started
a group of women interested in joining Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
Incorporated. Eleven women who were able to pay national Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority dues became pledgees of the (Kappa Phi chapter)
they were known as the 11 from heaven. After Completion of pledging
work, these women became sorrors of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. Charlotte
was elected president of these sorrors. Her sister, JoAnn Starks became
their Advisor. Charlotte, following in her father's footsteps; went on to
earn her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Social Work at the University
of Maryland.
Charlotte Suzanne Bracy- Johnson was a member of Madison Avenue
Presbyterian Church. She received awards for the outstanding services
rendered to the Christian education of youth evangelism auxiliary. She
Worked 11 years on the Renaissance Fellowship Group of Madison
Avenue Presbyterian Church. Charlotte earned additional awards for the
outstanding work she did in the many other committees of the Madison
Avenue Presbyterian Church. She received citations from city and state
officials acknowledging her services to the community as well. She was
a diligent and hard worker.
Charlotte worked for Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center for 24 years.
In addition to her Social Work degrees;she completed additional Social
Work courses to continually keep her current on new trends in Social Work.
She was a dependable employee who was also helpful in various situations.
She became the Assistant Director of Social Work and Director of Student
Education.
Cheri was married December 2012 to Houdini Johnson Jr.
Cheri had such a calming and kind spirit. She was a wonderful listener
to others and very family oriented. We all looked forward to holidays where
Cheri would bring her famous macaroni and cheese. She was helpful,
dependable and very logical in thought. Cheri will be sorely missed by many.
Charlotte leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Houdini Johnson Jr.;
her sister, JoAnn Starks; brother-in-law, Rodney Starks; two nieces,
April Starks, Jennifer Starks; one nephew, Rodney Starks; two great nieces,
Angel Starks, Brooklin Starks; five great nephews, Ahmad Sadler,
Sterlin Starks, Jaelin Starks, Dyllin Starks, Jackson Starks all of
Baltimore, MD., and a host of family members, Madison Avenue
Presbyterian Church members, sorority sisters, co- workers, and friends.
