On May 25,1957, Viola and Ambrose Matthews welcomed a new daughter, Charmaine, affectionately called "Memo" by her mother. She departed this life on Thursday morning, November 6, 2014 after a lengthy illness. At an early age, Charmaine attended Faith Baptist church and continued to enjoy listening to and singing gospel music. Charmaine received her high school education from Merganthaler High School where she played the violin in the school band, and graduated with honors. She also attended Community College of Baltimore majoring in Commercial Art. She enjoyed drawing cartoon characters. Charmaine began her career at Baltimore City Hall as an Administrative Assistant in the Mayors office and later became emplQyed as a convenient store clerk in her community. For the next 25 years, her health made it so that she could no longer work. In 1985, Charmaine (Char) met the love of her life, Ruleond (Tee) Baker and married after a short courtship. They enjoyed bowling on a league together, watching football, going dancing, and walking their hound dog "Buddy". Charmaine had a personality that was gentle, peaceful, very kind hearted and giving. She was always doing a favor for someone in need. One of Charmaine'S pastimes was watching game shows and coming up with the right answer, however her most favorite pastime was playing the Maryland State Lottery games and she was frequently a winner. Whenever you entered her home, you could see the many stuffed animals she loved, adored, and knew each one of them by name. The last one she received in the hospital was a bear with a hat and scarf. She named him "Cool Bear". Charmaine is preceded in death by her father, Ambrose C. Matthews, and her mother Viola E. Matthews. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Ruleond T.
