On May 3, 2012, the Lord called our beloved Charlotte W. Batts Thomas, home. Charlotte was born in Durham, North Carolina on September 9, 1937 to the late Thelma Batts and Willie Shaw. She was preceded in death by her loving grandmother that raised her , Fannie Oakley; her brother Kenneth Batts; and her daughter-in-law, Brenda Faison. Charlotte was one-of-a-kind. She could be a loving, sweet, caring, and giving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother or friend; or that reality check we all needed from time to time. She loved to have fun and live life to the fullest in her early years. She enjoyed a good laugh, so there was never a dull moment when you were around her. Charlotte called no one stranger, unless you proved yourself otherwise. She loved to cook and eat, but pleased her more to feed her tasty morsels to others. Charlotte received hr education in the Durham Public School System. She graduated from Hillside High school in 1955. She then moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1963 where she later married George Thomas. She attended Catonsville Community College where she received her Geriatric Aide Certificate, then went on to work 43 years in her field. Due to declining health, Charlotte retired in 1992. In 2006, Charlotte returned to Durham, North Carolina. She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Sheila Reed her husband Michael Reed of Durham, NC; three sons, James Batts, Sr. of Durham, NC, Jonathan Lassister of Baltimore, MD, and Frederick Jeanette of Durham, NC; one stepson, John Lumpkin of Baltimore, MD; a granddaughter she raised as her own, Chantrice Batts; a special great-granddaughter, Adrian Batts; special grandsons, James Batts, Jr., Tyrone Cooper, and Jonathan Brandon Lassister; special nephews, Michael Batts, Marco Allen, Fred Allen, and James Allen; special nieces, Lisa Batts, Theresa Allen, and Jean Allen; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; special friends, Leona Coleman of Florida, Mary Bullock and Chico Hines of Baltimore, MD; twp adopted daughters, Deborah Richardson-Paige, and Detria Baxter-Yaqoub pf Durham,.
