Claudette G. Royal, daughter of the late Robert and Fannie Mae Holly, was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She attended St. Francis Academy and graduated from there in 1958. Later that same year, she married the late Thomas Royal with whom she had four children Stephen, Damon, Paul and Lorena. For several years, she also raised her stepson Timothy. She spent several years as a file clerk at the Social Security Administration before retiring. Although she enjoyed traveling, going to plays, reading and studying Egyptology she eventually went back to school and obtained an Associate of Arts degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling. Claudette then worked a few years as an addiction counselor to city employees until her health declined forcing her to decrease her workload. She then began working as the front desk receptionist at Blue Point Nursing Home where she became known as "the gatekeeper". In addition to spending time with her family, she took great pleasure in the reestablishment of her active involvement at St. Veronica's where she was a member in the late 1960's, early 1970's. Reaffirming her Catholic faith was very important to her. She leaves to mourn her sons: Stephen (Jackie), Damon (Denise), Paul (Malinda); one daughter, Lorena; one stepson, Timothy; two sisters: Romerio Flemings of Severn, Maryland and Rachel Brown of Georgia; fifteen grandchildren: Shawn, Thomas II, Paul Jr., Al-Quamaar, Paula, Claudette, Stephen, Brittany, Tashyra, Stephanie, Janice, Calvin, Trinidad, Jessica, Jeryl, (and in memory, Natasha); nine great grandchildren; four special nieces and a nephew: Renita, Jerrard, Rhonda and Rochelle who affectionately called her aunt Dett and a host of other family and friends.
