Obituary

Clifton, was the first-born child of seven children from the union of Tom and Dorothy Durant (McDowell). He was born in Lynchburg, S.C. After the birth of their second child, the family relocated to Baltimore, MD. Clifton was soon enrolled in the Baltimore Public School Systems. He graduated from Edmondson High School in 1968, as part of the school's firstand largest graduating class. While attending Edmondson High School, he participated in many sports, such as the track and field team and worked as a student sports manager.

After the passing of his father at the age of 19; he became a great influence on his six younger siblings often giving counsel and approval, even while amusing himself with his antics. He loved his family and enjoyed visiting with his family members from New York and South Carolina. It didn't have to be a holiday to pay a visit. He then enrolled in Morgan State College where he studied as a History major. During that time, he made many friends "likebrothers". While attending Morgan he decided to pledge a fraternity and became a member of the Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Alpha Chapter. Heenjoyed his fraternity and traveled all around representing his organization. It was nothing for him and his fraternity brothers to take "road trips". As a member of his fraternity, Clifton served in several leadership positions locally and nationally. He was proud to show off his lifetime membership Gold Card.

Clifton was united in holy matrimony to Diedre Z. Moore Durant for 33 years. Clifton was blessed with three children, Clifton Durant, Jr., (from a prior union), Christian Thomas Durant and his youngest son Jonathan William Durant (God's Angel) who preceded him in death.

He always attended the Annual his Fraternity Conclaves and made the majority of them. While attending Morgan he also worked full time for C&P Telephone company/ Bell Atlantic which eventually becameVERIZON, where he worked for 37 years before retiring. He initially worked as an installation Technician andin later years was promoted to management.

Clifton took pride in being a snappy dresser with a swagger everyone appreciated.

Clifton was very charismatic and had a charming personality. Clifton will be remembered for his sense of humor, hisidentifiable laughter, his passion and love for sports. He was once a member of the All World Softball Team who where local Baltimore City Legends (that's the way the story was told). He enjoyed going to concerts, listening to jazz, and traveling. Especially traveling internationally to Cairo, Egypt to meet each of his grandchildren. Clifton loved to "solve" world problems with several of his lifelong friends Duke, Gainey, JP, Devaux, Douglas, Stu, Sam, fraternity Brothers, church membersand the list goes on. Clifton was a friend for life and a protector; a man of honor and taking a man for his word was still important to him. By the way you wouldn't want to mistreat a friend of his, it would awaken the force and the release of his wrath.

He adored his grandchildren and took joy in cooking for them and joking with them. He had recently witnessed his oldest granddaughter Cameron telling the younger grandkids that Granddaddy's" little friends" were actually his tickle fingers. They all laughed and giggled. They always enjoyed sneaking to sit in Granddaddy's favorite chair. He enjoyed the opportunity of assisting in picking them up from school where they established their own special routine throughout the weekdays. Also, when they would come over for the weekend, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren, to church and he attended many of their special activities, concerts, witnessing special events, loss of teeth, birthdays and accomplishments.

Clifton attended church and later became a member at Good Shepherd Baptist Church. There he served on the Trustee Ministry and then accepted the position as a Deacon where he was ordained November 2009. He participated in all events of the church and coordinated the Annual Church Picnic, and enjoyed singing those good old songs with the Male Chorus.

Not many folks had escaped his love of practical jokes. He loved his family and enjoyed visiting with his family members from New York and South Carolina. It didn't have to be a holiday to pay them a visit.

Clifton is pre-deceased by his parents and three of his brothers, Irvin, Leroy, Cleavon and one brother-in-law, John Moore who passed away before 40 years of age.Clifton leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Diedre Z.
