Obituary

CLIFTON VERNON ETHERIDGE, son of the late John and Beatrice Etheridge, was born on September 12, 1928 in Yonkers, New York. He departed this life on November 10, 2013. "Vernon," as he was affectionately called, graduated from high school in Suffolk County, Virginia before joining the U.S. Army in 1946. After leaving Virginia he eventually settled in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1978 he married Gerlean Etheridge. He was a faithful member of Lewin United Methodist Church where he was a Lay Leader, Chairperson of Trustees, active on the choirs, Methodist Men, Charge Conference Retreat, Bible Class and Sunday School. On a Sunday in May, 2002, he joined New Psalmist Baptist Church where he was active in Men's Chorus, the Discipleship Leadership Classes, Sister Barbara Earl Bible Class and Wednesday Noon Day Services. He became a full time employee of Owen Brown Senior Citizen Home, Columbia Flier, Supervisor of Jubb Lincoln Maintenance Company, also telephone deliverer of B-more. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Gerlean Etheridge; devoted son, Clifton Etheridge Campbell of Winchester, Virginia; devoted aunt, Emmie Ferguson; two sisters, Margie Lee and Carolyn Joyner all of Portsmouth, Virginia; six grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
