A Time to Be Born: Consuella "Connie" Cole Spears was born on June 24, 1932. She was the first of three children born to Hazel Cole Dunston. She grew up in Baltimore, MD with her brother Leslie and her sister Sylvia. A Time to Learn: Consuella was educated in the Baltimore City school system. A Time to Wed: Consuella met her beloved husband Wilbert Gordon Spears in 1947. They were married on November 7, 1949. They shared 46 years of marriage, before he passed away on October 11, 1996. A Time to Plant: Wilbert and Consuella were blessed with three children, Lionel, Hazetta and Alicia. Consuella provided love, care and spiritual guidance to her family. A Time to Worship: Consuella loved to pray, fellowship and listen to gospel music. As a youth, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the Sharp Street Union Memorial Church. In her . midlife, she joined Pentecost Baptist Church. She served on the Deaconess, Pastor's Aid and Health Care Ministries. In 1992, she transferred her membership to New Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Bible Study, served on Deaconess, Missionary and Women's Ministries. A Time to Work: Consuella worked at Emerson Hotel, in downtown Baltimore, as an assistant to the chef. Next she worked, on Gay Street, at Carter Drug Store as a health tech and cashier. Then she started working at Rosewood State Hospital as a mental health worker for the mentally challenged youth. After 20 years of service, she retired and joined the American Federation of State and County Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Retiree Chapter #1. A Time to Live, Love and Rejoice: Consuella had many passions and hobbies. She loved cooking, fashion and making new friends. She was a creative cake decorator, a licensed manicurist and a down-home soul food cook. She loved to shop and had a room filled with beautiful hats, shoes and clothes. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, friends and having family gatherings at her home. A Time to Return Home: Consuella's sweet spirit left on March 6, 2014. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children Lionel Spears Sr., Hazetta Brooks, and Alicia Wilkerson, a daughter-in- law Cascelia Spears and a son-in-law Charles Brooks, six grandchildren Nagaina Thomas (Stanley), Gregory Eldridge Jr. (Kimberly), Lionel Spears Jr., Victoria Clanton (Thomas Jr.), Nicole Reason (Robert), Sudia Sibley (Billy), eight great grandchildren - Najee, Shai, Amber, Dorien, Mia, Camryn, Sydney and Austin, a brother Leslie Williams, a sister-in-law Dianne Hodnett, a brother-in-law Ronald Hodnett, a host of nephews, nieces, family members and friends.
